About the Event

The International Baroque Consort is focusing on Spanish Baroque music, a celebration of Spain in the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as music with strong Spanish ties. The programme will feature music by Joaquín Martínez de la Roca, anonymously composed music set to the words of Lope de Vega, Juan Francisco Escuder, Diego Ortiz, Sebastián Durón, and Giuseppe Antonio Paganelli. This music is rare and some of it has been buried and/or forgotten. What the IBC has done, is acquired and arranged and transcribed each of the associated pieces, as well as make them readily available to the public, making this year’s goal to revive this music significantly for listeners and performers alike. Beginning in 2024, we anticipate making a professional recording of all music that is a part of the set, and making arrangements, transcriptions and editions of the music available on our website. The project will take place solely in the United Kingdom in 2023, from central England, to Northern Wales, and continuing upwards into Glasgow, with intentions in participating in an early music festival or two. In 2024, it will continue with some locations in the United Kingdom, but will be focused on doing some segments of the tour in the United States and finishing the tour in the repertoire's home country, Spain. These locations will be updated on our website in the coming months, so please subscribe to us so you can stay up to date with where we are and what we're doing, because it could be near you!

This is a large endeavour for the ensemble, which means we especially appreciate your support. You can donate to the International Baroque Consort via the links scattered throughout our website. All donations to the IBC go 100% to the ensemble's endeavours, travels, projects, and research, and with your help we can continue to revive and perform ancient music the way it was meant to be. Amazingly, 90% of composersin history have not been discovered, are you going to help bring that number down? The music of "Música de España" is rare and some of it has been buried and/or forgotten.  We are excited to bring this unique and unfamiliar music to audiences around the United Kingdom this year, and throughout the west in 2024.

In select locations, the IBC will also be offering masterclasses in either "Ensemble Skills and New Ensemble Formation" or "The Art of Noticing as a Musician and Developing Awareness". These masterclasses will happen at university locations and will be posted with other events on our events page.
